Kailua Village Artists Gallery--Our History

Reed our story below

Located in the heart of Kailua Kona Village, the Kailua Village Artists Gallery has been home to many local artisans since our formation in 1987. We are the oldest artists co-op in the State of Hawaii! Because of the sound business structure and the juried members, our business has endured for over three decades! Currently we are ten working members and six guest artists.

It all started in September 1987 when the original group of artists announced the opening of the first gallery at the Sheraton Waikoloa Hotel. Over the years, the KVA gallery expanded into three locations. Today we are back to one, located in the Kona Marketplace, just off Ali'i Drive in downtown Kailua-Kona.

We present a wide selection of art at affordable prices, offered in a friendly gallery with the Aloha Spirit. And we have never wavered from our goal of offering original art, created exclusively by Big Island artists.

Giving back to our community
For the last 15 years, in support of our community, the KVA gallery has held an annual holiday fundraiser for a deserving local charity. Our artists lovingly create handmade ornaments, with 100% of the sales donated to that charity.

 In times of trouble
Since the 2008 economy crash, we’ve endured some rocky times. During the Kilauea volcanic eruption in 2018, local businesses throughout the island suffered. The massive decline in tourism forced many businesses to close.  Eventually, the slow process of visitors returning to the island helped the remaining businesses get back on their feet. We survived!

Then, the COVID-19 global pandemic struck. On March 23 we had to close our doors and have been mandated by the State to remain closed in order to protect our Island. We are now facing the toughest of times.

In this time of need
We hope you are able to share the Aloha Spirit with us. We humbly ask the community, our patrons and friends, to collectively contribute to our Go Fund Me campaign. This will ensure that our artists and gallery can remain a viable local business. Any contribution will be greatly appreciated. After all, many hands make light work.

The Kailua Village Artists' Gallery continues to be closed through May 31, 2020 in compliance with the governor's mandate issued during the Covid-19 pandemic. We hope to open for business again sometime in June.

If there is anything we can do for you, please contact us at (808) [phone redacted]. You will get a voicemail. Please leave your name and phone number and your call will be returned as soon as possible. You can visit our website at Kailua Village Artists Gallery to see our artist's work, and our Facebook and Instagram page at Kailua Village Artists. Although we cannot sell from the website, we can put you in touch with the artists, take orders, make electronic sales, and ship your art or arrange a pick up location. Purchasing art would be another way to support the gallery and our artists during this financially challenging time.

Please look for the donate link. It’s easy and safe.
