Help My Mom, Carmen O’Kane, in Her last chapter.
Hi, my name is Sabrina O’Kane. I never thought I’d have to do something like this, but I’m here asking for help for my mom, Carmen. Some of you know her, some of you don’t, but if you do, you know she’s one of the most caring, stubborn, and loving people you’ll ever meet.
Back in May 2019, my mom was diagnosed with triple negative breast cancer. She bravely went through a double mastectomy. They checked her lymph nodes, and thankfully they were clear at that time. We all thought she had beaten it, but cancer has a way of coming back when you least expect it. Her follow-up PET scan showed it had spread. Stage 4. Metastatic.
My mom always tried to do things naturally. She’s vegan and didn’t want chemo, believing that it wasn’t right for her. She did radiation a few times just to help shrink the tumors around her chest and clavicle, but it was never a cure, just to help with how it looked and felt for her. The tumors came back anyway, and now, there’s nothing more the doctors can do.
She’s at home now, on hospice, and can’t do much on her own. Most days, she’s in bed and needs help with everything, eating, moving, just getting comfortable. It’s just me here taking care of her and trying to keep her comfortable. All she has is me, and to be honest, it’s just too much for me to handle alone. I’m trying my best, but I can’t do it all, emotionally and financially.
If you can help at all, or just share this page so it can reach others that are able to help, it would mean so much to both of us. I just want my mom’s last months to be full of love and comfort, and right now, it's just too much to handle alone.
Thank you from the bottom of my heart for reading, sharing, or helping in any way. If you have questions message me. We appreciate you all so much.
With love,
Sabrina
