Kurt's Expenses & Recovery Fund

First, thank you for caring enough about Kurt and the Kammann family to read this, help if possible and share the update with mutual friends. You know Kurt wouldn’t hesitate to do the same for any one of us. Unfortunately, right now the guy we all know to be tough as nails and carry a heart of gold under every stitch of his grass-stained clothing needs our support.

Medical fluke takes the bull by the horn

Kurt runs through life at 100 miles-per-hour like a bull in a china shop. His three kids (Karly, 14 Kelsey, 10; and Kris, 6) are the greatest joys in his life. His second love is soccer.

The last week of August, Kurt found himself unable to keep down any food or liquid. He thought he just had a nasty stomach bug. But five days later, he found himself in the ICU with severe dehydration and with his organs in distress. The doctors quickly diagnosed a blood clot in the vein between his liver and his small intestine; affecting critical blood flow.

Four weeks later, after some unexpected setbacks, Kurt is still in the hospital. His gastro intestinal and vascular systems have been put through the ringer. He hasn’t been able hold down solid food for almost 5 weeks. He is, just within the last 24 hours, back on a liquid diet that extends beyond ice chips and popsicles.

The blood clot is still a danger. The good news is that the clot hasn’t grown, but it hasn’t shrunk yet either — and his body hasn’t regained enough health to absorb the clot. Even once he is released from the hospital, his body is going to need time to heal and regain strength. He has lost at least 20 pounds through this ordeal.

Kurt wants nothing more to return to the soccer field, his landscaping business and, most of all, his home with his kids.

Where help is needed

We are trying to raise $30,000 to cover 6 months of recovery. The money is intended to help him recover physically, recoup lost business and help pay expenses during this recovery time.

Kurt has run his landscaping business independently for 20 years. His friends and family have pitched in to keep his business going, but some of his largest clients have been self-maintaining while Kurt is in the hospital; reducing his monthly income. In addition, the longer his recovery time, the higher the risk he has of losing clients. As we move into the colder months, his billable hours will naturally decrease, and finding clients will become harder.

This gofundme will help ensure that Kurt can focus on recovery and his family once he is released from the hospital.

Thank you

Thanks again for helping out. The kids are with their mom Booth, who checks in on Kurt regularly. Focused, driven Karly loves high school and travel volleyball, sweet-hearted Kelsey loves to swim, and Kris remains the spitting image of his spirited dad on and off the soccer field. They’re all looking forward to having him home as soon as possible.

And, we look forward to seeing Kurt back on the soccer field or kicking back a bit at the Beer Market.
