Kurelo Ironman Charity Event

3 years ago my mom had a freak accident. She fainted, fell down a flight of stairs and woke up paralyzed. Doctors gave her a 20% chance of walking again. She spent two years in both in and out patient therapy recovering. At her 2 year follow up the doctor told he she wasn’t walking yet so she never would. My mom did not accept that answer.

Today she is zipping around with a walker and has taken a few steps unassisted! My mom taught me that nobody can put limitations on your dreams and that when faced with adversity you have choices. You can choose to push forward or you can succumb to it.

I know I will never fully understand how my mom was challenged physically, mentally or emotionally but I thought the closest I could get to understanding that would be competing in an Ironman. I will be doing my first triathlon - an Ironman, in my moms honor on November 18th 2018. While I train for an Ironman, my mom will be training to walk the mall, her favorite place.

We will be raising money for the Shirley Ryan Ability lab where she spent almost a year of her life recovering.

Shirley Ryan has a fund that pays for patient care when they can’t afford to cover what their insurance doesn’t pay. All proceeds of this fundraiser will be donated to this fund.

Thank you you for the support!
