This spring, our son-in-law, Jack, was diagnosed with stage II small cell lung cancer.  Since then things have moved very quickly!  Doctor appointments, scans, multiple tests, and pneumonectomy surgery have gotten Jack to the point of post-surgical treatment: chemo and radiation.

Jack is a hardworking husband to Michelle and dad to a 21 yr old son and an 8 yr old daughter.

On April 13, 2017, Jack had an episode, thinking he had a heart attack. It turns out, Jack's heart was fine; however, a mass was found in his left lung. Lymph nodes taken from around his lungs did not show cancer. On May 9, he had a pneumonectomy. The surgeon was hoping to remove only the lower lobe of his left lung, but had to remove the whole lung. Jack is recovering very well from the surgery.

The biopsy of the left lung showed both non-small cell lung cancer and small cell lung cancer (SCLC),and one lymph node with SCLC. Thankfully, no additional cancer has shown up in any other parts of his body or brain.

Stage II small cell lung cancer (SCLC), which accounts for approximately 10 to 15 percent of all lung cancer cases, is a very aggressive form of cancer that often goes undiagnosed until it's more advanced, so the survival rate tends to be low: the 5-year relative survival rate is about 19%. Thankfully, Jack's SCLC was detected in its early stages and the chances of making a recovery are much higher.  www.cancer.org/cancer/small-cell-lung-cancer.html

Jack began his 4 cycles (16 weeks) of chemotherapy on June 13. After that, they'll scan him again. Hopefully, he'll still show as cancer free, and he'll have preventative radiation to keep this horrific cancer at bay!

As you can imagine, this has caused tremendous uncertainty in the lives of Jack, Michelle, Liam, and Sophie. There will be financial stresses ahead of them in the form of medical bills, lost wages, as well as unforeseen treatment/travel, etc. We'd like to help them by providing some money so they do not have to worry about becoming one of the statistics: a family that loses their home because of a life-threatening illness!

If you want to help Jack, Michelle, Liam, and Sophie through this difficult situation, please consider donating any amount you can, no matter how small . . . It will all be greatly appreciated and go directly to them!!

One final thing, please keep them in your prayers . . . We firmly believe that God is watching over this family and will bless them in many ways!
