Hit and Run Victims

Hit and run motorists, one of the most selfish members of our species, leave their victims, often irreversibly, damaged for life. Physical damage (in my case, loss of limb and nerve damage resulting in significantly diminished use of my dominant hand), psychological damage, potentially financial hardship, and significant lifestyle changes. And these are just the obvious and foreseeable factors. Loss of my job, and with it my insurance coverage, has left me with immeasurable insecurity in terms of future medical and therapy expenses, additional surgeries, and ongoing maintenance and care of prosthetic devices. I'm sure I have only experienced the tip of the iceberg when considering the future impact of this senseless act of one human being on another. But I refuse to allow this to erase my previously active and productive lifestyle. And, more importantly, I refuse to let this deny my family the provision and security that they deserve and for which depend upon me.
