Hello friends and family-
My amazing mother Kristine was diagnosed with MS in 2008. She has the progressive type and her mobility and ability to care for herself has become more and more difficult. She lives by her self in Santa Barbara and is not able to have a full time job because of the emotional and physical stress she is going through.
A weeks ago she found herself unable to stand or move her hands and ended up at Cottage hospital for a week. From there she went to the Cottage rehab facility where she has been working hard the last two weeks on gaining back her hand and full body strength. She has made huge strides and has been able to get around in a wheelchair. She will be returning home this week but will need a lot of help. Unfortunately, insurance will not pay for all of the in home care she needs.
If you knew my Mama from when I was a kid or have spent time with her recently, the picture in your mind of her is probably something like this: intensely independent, joyous, witty, a doer, a helper, a good time, a listener, a loyal friend, an advocate for kids and parents, a great sense of humor and a huge heart. She has always been the breadwinner and the head of the house, so you can imagine how difficult it is for her not to be able to take care of herself and her own needs.
All money donated to this campaign will go to the following things:
-Continuing to make the necessary changes to her home to make it accessible
-Paying skilled caregivers to come to her home through out the day to help her with everyday tasks
-Paying a caretaker to drive and help her to/from appointments
My mom has always been a helper. If she has helped you over the years, I hope you'll consider helping her when she needs it the most.
