Our group of middle school friends decided to start this page to help our dear friend, Kristin. In recent days Kristin fell extremely sick and is now in the hospital. Kristin will have a long recovery ahead of her and with that being said she will not be able to work. We are looking to raise money for Kristin to help her pay day to day bills. Our goal is set at 2K but if we raise more that's even better! We will keep everyone updated on her progress through this page!

Last Thursday I began to feel a slight sore throat which escalated on Friday and Saturday the pain was so unmanageable that I went to the ER. I was immediately put on pain meds, steroids, and admitted to the hospital for antibiotics and surveillance. They called it pharyngeal abscesses that would reduce.
As soon as I arrived home Monday, the symptoms came back but with a vengeance. Swelling increased around my entire neck, I could no longer swallow water, food, or my own saliva. And then I slowly began to lose my voice. My friend suggested that he take me back to the Emergency Room.
In the Emergency Room things began to plummet. I could not speak and the pain grew. And then I WAS GASPING FOR AIR because my airway has been blocked. I could not breathe and death was closer than it’s ever been.
The doctor’s performed an emergency tracheotomy while I was awake and the next morning I underwent surgery cutting open my neck to have all abscesses of infection drained.
Final verdict - a specific type of strep virus was lodged into a pocket in the back of my throat and neck and the infection spread like wildfire.
The road to recovery will be long. I am the most helpless I have ever been. I am getting help to breathe and perform all basic functions. I can’t speak, I can’t eat or drink or do much of anything.
I will have a feeding tube for 3-4 weeks, need to work with a speech pathologist to gain back my voice, and physical and occupational therapists will aid in my physical recovery as well.
