Kristen's Medical Travel & Expenses

A Decision has been made.

On Monday the 13th, Kristen & Jason will head out for University of Washington where Kristen will be undergoing surgery for a colostomy & hysterectomy. It is a decision that she & her family have thought long & hard about, but know that this is the right direction & time to proceed. She will have skilled surgeons conducting both operations in one setting. She is planning on having a minimum of 4 days in the hospital before she gets released. After that they will have a meeting with a stoma specialist in the coming days. She is scheduled for 12-weeks of leave from work, which will be filled with follow-up appts both locally & possibly on the other side of the state.

She is ready to continue her life in this new direction. To have a day free of pain. To spend time with Hunter as he starts a new school year. To continue to grow her relationship with those she loves. This next step is scary, but also a reassurance on all her thoughts & feelings that have been analyzed over the last few years.

Any assistance that you can give is greatly appreciated by her & her family, & they thank you for all the continued support, whether in the form of financial or emotional.

She will be trying to maintain her blog for more details & to keep everyone up-to-date:

On August 28th 2016 Kristen got the news that a surgery she needed had to be addressed immediately.

She had to have a colorectal surgery due to blood clots, and hemorrhaging. The surgery seemed to go well, but what she didn't know at the time was pain killers she was prescribed exascerbated a misdiagnosis from childhood.

Two weeks post surgery she went to her Post op and they suggested all sorts of things and she tried them. Still no luck. It wasn't too much longer before they decided to admit her into WWGH. As soon as it was clear her body wasn't going to respond to this treatment they called in a specialist.

She went to this specialist apt and had study upon study. The information they gained from all of these studies is she had Ulcer's, Fissures, Slow Motility, and Gastroparesis of the stomach. She was referred and seen by the OR GI Clinic in Tualatin OR, a Colo-rectal surgeon, a referral to OHSU & most recent update: Referral has been sent, reviewed, and scheduled for the MAYO CLINIC in Rochester MN for Oct 11th.

She was told that she should plan on being outpatient for at least 10 business days so that she can meet with multiple providers for a comprehensive medical workup. At that time they will come up with a plan that may or may not include another surgery. This is a min. of 3 weeks of travel and stay.

Her & Jason need to pay for travel to & from MN, lodging, food & any additional medical expenses that will arise while they are there & possible when they return home. It has been a long road so far & isn't over yet.

There have been too many to thank who have helped her & her family throughout this year & they appreciate everything, but they still need assistance. Her & her family thank you for any assistance.
