Kristopher Chavez has been a law enforcement officer with the Farmington Police Department for 9 ½ years. He grew up in Farmington and has been married to his high school sweetheart for 18 ½ years. Kris currently serves as the school resource officer for Farmington High School. He has been an SRO for six years. Kris loves the community of Farmington and has a passion for working with kids, volunteering time outside of work.
At age 25, Kris was diagnosed with Keratoconous in both of his eyes, a degenerative eye condition. At the time of his diagnosis he had two options: contact lenses or a corneal transplant. The transplant can only be performed in one eye at a time. If Kris opted for the transplant, he would have had to leave his career in law enforcement - serving the community he loves. Kris has been wearing special contacts for the past 15 years. The contacts are no longer effective and are now causing additional damage to his eyes.
Now there is another option. Dr. Boxer Wachler in California discovered a non-invasive procedure called Holcomb C3-R Crosslinking. The Holcomb C3-R Crosslinking System helps halt the progression of Keratoconous. This procedure will help save Kris’ eyesight and help prevent the need for a corneal transplant.
The total cost of the procedure is approximately $18,000 plus travel expenses. Kris’ insurance will not cover the procedure. It is imperative that he have this done so that he does not lose his vision.
