Thirty years of an international dream, 40 years of honing needlework artisanship, in the year I turn 50-- this is the moment to merge my worlds, and I'd love you to be part of the connections we can build together to forge solutions. I'm set to use international expertise and artisanship to help others around the corner and around the world. Join me!
Thirty years living the international dream. Since working in convenience stores in the 1980s finding French-language grocery lists, I've been fascinated by the international world. I majored in French in college and, armed with degrees in international relations, I've worked in all kinds of international roles--for the private sector, the non-profit world and in public service. As a professor, I turned the study of "global problems" into "global solutions" and watched my students transform into some of the bravest changemakers I've had the satisfaction of working with! My career has helped me touch the world in all its corners, and I'm a champion of innovative solutions to some of our most pressing problems.
Forty years enjoying the pleasure and promise of all kinds of needlework. My mother and grandmother taught me how to embroider and crochet, and then I learned needlepoint, macrame, cross-stitch, hardanger, drawn-thread work, sewing, knitting, tunisian crochet, rug hooking, etc. Many of my extended family are artistic, and these skills and abilities have inspired me to use my own talents in forging connections all over the world. I've crocheted for peace, made afghans for Afghans, and kept the homeless warm.
Fifty years breathing and just getting started! Born three months before the Summer of Love, when the Cold War was raging and conflict inside the US was pretty fierce -- sound familiar? But my multilingual and multi-heritage family prepared me well. My Scandinavian roots have been engaged with needlework since the Bronze Age, and my Greek roots include net-making, crochet and recognizable embroidery patterns. They have furnished me with what some might call old fashioned skills, and what others refer to as post-apocalyptic survival skills. I like to think of it as crafting the ancient future.
In 2017, the year I turned 50, I also graduated to expert-level status in my crochet work, and celebrated my thirtieth international year. I'm set to merge my three worlds into Krisanswers, a crafting enterprise that uses international knowledge to champion solutions by forging local connections. Here's what it looks like:
Can you help? I'm seeking limited funds to:
a. build the Krisanswers Mobile Market, an in-person crafting booth that visits fairs and festivals;
b. provide for entry fees into the first few fairs and festivals; and
c. aid in marketing set up (banner for booth, etc).
I'd also gladly accept, if funds are not possible for you:
1. sharing this campaign. You'd be helping me to forge those connections!
2. pointing me toward upcoming festivals you love, to help with the local market consciousness, or
3. pointing me toward an intern for the summer or fall of 2018--either a globally-minded political science student with mad crochet skills, or a fiber arts major ready to change our world.
If I've learned anything about living the international dream, it's that positive change is possible every instant we make it so. As a professor, I have lived by the African proverb: "If you want to go fast, go alone. But if you want to go far, go together." Words can not express how happy I will be when you take this next step with me.
