Hi, this is Broden Murray. A few years ago I helped James Declerus secure the equipment and funds needed to set up KrikKrak Computer Project, a mission to get tech education to primary and secondary school students, in Hinche, Haiti. We oversaw a successful year of instruction, before gas shortages and civil unrest swept all of Haiti through 2021. Now, I'm helping James secure the resources he needs to expand the project even through energy crises.
Please check out what he has to say below!
In 2018, the krik krak computer project led a survey in the 4th Section of Hinche, Haiti which resulted that 98% of rural kids in this area (from 7 to 15 years old) had no idea about computer basics.
We start introducing computer literacy in September 2020. At that time, we used fuel to generate energy to power the 15 laptops, the projector, and the Internet in A Box Kit.
But, since the assassination of the president (Jovenel Moise), We started facing fuel shortages which impact our daily operations.
To resolve this problem and bring a fully functional computer lab to the 17 localities and thousands of kids and young that using our computer lab, the krik krak computer project team is planning to use renewable energy by installing a solar panel system to power the computer lab.
