On January 22, Don was starting a fire in his family's outdoor fireplace with his two children when there was an explosion involving a gas can he was holding in his right hand. His entire body was engulfed in flames. Thank goodness the neighbor Tony heard the explosion and ran over to help.
Don has 3rd and 2nd degree burns over 51% of his body. Don and Sarah were on a Life Flight Plane to the University of Utah Burn Center in Salt Lake City within less than four hours of the injury.
He is looking at two, maybe three surgeries to do skin graphs on his chin, thighs and possibly his forearms. The Doctors say he will be in the hospital for about 4-7 weeks. That depends on how he recovers. His job does not have sick or vacation pay.
Don and Sarah's kids were not injured. They were present in the backyard when their daddy was engulfed in flames. They could use your prayers. The family is working with social services to help them handle this traumatic event for the kids. Both of them are being well cared for by both their grandparents while Sarah is able to be with Don in Utah in the Burn Intensive Care Unit.
I have been lucky enough to know this family for five years. Our children became the best of friends on our weekly playdates.

The months to come are going to be rough for them, worrying about paying for the growing medical bills should be the last thing on their mind.
