Caring for Cara
Cara’s story starts just like any other 15 year old teenager. Full of life, free spirit, friend forever kind of girl.
Then her never ending energy disappeared. Just getting out of bed in the morning and standing up was becoming very difficult. Going to school and just walking to class was exhausting.
More symptoms followed: The dizziness, migraines, increased heart and pulse rate, nausea, chronic pain, fatigue, weakness, abdominal pain and brain fog were now taking over her everyday life.
Someone we love needs a cure for POTS! Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome. A relatively new disease POTS still lacks a set of universally followed predefined treatment guidelines, which often results in confusion and frustration among patients and physicians.
This story is about our beautiful granddaughter ❤️
Her days are now no longer filled with friends hanging out at the mall or laughing at the lockers in between classes, her hands are not serving up a volleyball or her legs aren’t taking her dancing at school gatherings.
Her days are now filled with exhaustion, IV bags, a feeding tube and her cute tank tops have been replaced due to the port that has been placed in her chest to carry meds and nutrients to her body. Compression socks are also a part of her attire to keep the blood from pooling in her legs.
We as grandparents feel lost and helpless as to Cara’s everyday needs and pain.
We as parents to Nick and Brynn feel lost and helpless to their everyday stress and struggles.
So this is why we decided to start a Medical Go Fund Me Page. To not only raise awareness of POTS, but to try to raise much needed funds to help Nick and Brynn with Cara’s monthly medical needs and past bills from hospital stays and surgeries over the last few months.
