My beautiful family has been SEVERELY affected by Hurricane Florence in Hampstead, NC in ways that defy comprehension. My precious grandparents, Edward and Lillian, and three aunts, Cathy, Patti and Janine live in a neighborhood that has flooded beyond epic proportion (losing 72 homes!). Cathy, Patti and my grandparents houses are under water. Janine's house has suffered extensive damage and is also unlivable. They also lost 6 cars.
Between their four houses they are 16 people with 7 dogs. Last week they all fled to Atlanta upon hearing that Florence could possibly hit as a category 4 with their town right in her crosshairs. As former NYers, they would take a blizzard any day over the threat of that tropical beast!
They are still in Atlanta awaiting word that it is safe to return home. The entire area of Wilmington, NC has effectively been cut off from the rest of the world with major roads being flooded and destroyed. It's a nightmare that you only ever see on TV, but they are living it.
This has been a terrifying, life altering event for all of them and I don't know how they will recover. I am in awe of how they held up this far. They have suffered unimaginable losses. People have been asking how they can help and this would be one huge way to show them that people care and will help them rebuild their lives day by day. Thank you very much for your thoughts and prayers. With each other and all of us, I know they will come back from this disaster stronger than ever.
