Hello everyone. Over the last year, I have had to deal with a number of crisis situations in my family, from the death of my brother, to a broken ankle, a car accident in which I was hit by a drunk driver, and now, caring for my sister who is battling cancer and is medically fragile and needs a lot of assistance right now.
But since I am the only family member who can handle these situations, I have had to take a lot of time off work and have had a lot of expenses I have had to pay for, including my brother's last expenses, medical bills, and a lot of time off work. Now, I am going to have to help my sister, but I will not be able to afford the lost time off work and additional expenses on my own. I have not been able to obtain very much help for her due to the fact her insurance denied her for home health--meaning I will have to not only come up with the money for her to have at least a few hours of help during the day, I will also have to miss out on paid caregiving hours for my daughter, who is severely autistic and nonverbal, and functions at the level of a three-year-old.
This is an untenable situation--I cannot abandon my sister, who is also nearly blind due to a stroke earlier this year, and is on oxygen 24/7--but I also can't afford to provide for my daughter's needs if I can't work all of my hours and have at least an extra $1000 in additional expenses each month. My sister barely has enough income from SSDI to cover her rent and utilities, so she cannot afford this herself. There is no room for her to move in with me--which would make things much easier if it was possible.
So I am trying to raise the funds I need to be able to meet all of these needs and be able to see to it my daughter is provided for during this time.
Any help is greatly appreciated--we are looking at about six months of caring for my sister while she undergoes cancer treatment.
