Hello, Family and Friends!!
Well, as many of you know I am in my second year at Otis College of Art and Design as Photography major, minoring also in painting and teaching. My photography has developed so much since I have been at Otis. The opportunities to create art, especially the endless possibilities for my future as an artist would all not be possible without the amazing school I am currently attending.
Recently, an opportunity to travel to New York City has been offered in the Fine Art Department. The trip will last for 11 days in May. The trip includes exploring both the full range of Museums Galleries and institutions available as inspiration and background to artists residing there and the lives of an artist themselves. New York is the center of the art market, and I’ll be introduced to both contemporary and historical works of art. As a group my class and I will have the opportunity to meet with artists in their studios and explore the city itself. I will have the chance to see first hand many of the major works of art that are available only in NYC and to meet artists, curators, and dealers whose influence is global.
During this trip, I would be spending time in various locations sketching, drawing, and taking 35mm black and white/ color of all the wonders and culture of New York. I have traveled to New York twice in my life, but I never had an opportunity to experience the art world of the beautiful city. I believe that this trip will offer me a great deal of knowledge and a better understanding of what I want out of Art School.
The trip includes staying at the New York Arts Program Residence located in Chelsea, plane tickets to and from JFK, an unlimited subway pass for 10 days, admission into seven major museums in the city, exploring the Galleries in Chelsea, a train ticket to Dia: Beacon located on the banks of the Hudson River, and my supplies that I would need for this trip. This trip costs $2,750; I am currently working as a Teachers Assistant, and I hope to make a good amount of money but not nearly enough to cover the whole cost. With your generous donations and help, I will be closer to my goal. The remaining amount will come from me working over the summer.
I have come so far from the junior in high school who didn’t even know what she wanted out of life or even school itself. I am very appreciative of my high school Photo 1 teacher who pushed me in the right direction but also everyone who has supported me through the years. I am grateful for the many opportunities that have come from Otis and I couldn’t be more excited to go on this trip. It would be wonderful if you guys could help me reach my goal, anything will help out. Thank you guys for just hearing me out. Love you all!
