The health of our farm and community is under dire threat. A gas & oil company, under a veil of secrecy, has been planning to build a 5.5 acre compressor station along our property line, just feet from our pasture, barn, water source and home.
(This photo shows us outlined in white, the land they plan to aquire in blue and the proposed compressor station footprint in red.)

"The possibilities for health, safety or environmental harm resulting from natural gas compressor stations are many and serious. Some of these include: Explosions fires leaks and spills, plus fugitive emissions of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) and nitrogen oxides (NOx), as well as other potential exposure threats, such as radon 222 and lead. While all of these hazards have been well documented nationwide the most prevalent, by far, is the intentional (routine) “blow-downs”. Accidental releases of VOCs and NOx also occur. The types of VOCs and NOx commonly emitted include: Formaldehyde, benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene, xylene, hydrogen disulfide, carbon monoxide(CO),carbon dioxide (CO2), sulfur dioxide (SO2), methane (CH4) and other compounds or elements that are toxic, carcinogenic or neurotoxic, and which are prone to causing major adverse health effects in humans and animals." (From Mina Hamilton’s research in Madison County, NY- Research Associate at Radioactive Waste Management Associates)

In recent studies, residents within a mile of compressor stations experience throat irritation, headaches and nose bleeds due to numerous toxic gases being emitted from the compressor. People close to the station have a higher risk of cancer, neurological problems, birth defects, reproductive disorders and circulatory system diseases.
High noise levels and continuous bright light are also major concerns, creating stress and health problems for humans and animals alike. We can expect our domestic and farm animals to experience undo stress and health complications and a disruption in our ability to continue to host the population of wildlife here.
As for safety, this compressor station will be monitored remotely. Please google natural gas line incineration zones, blast zones and burn zones. "If there is an incident or explosion, it could last for hours and the evacuations could be miles." (Excerpt from nopipelies.org)(Compressor Station fire in Utah)

We are trying to halt or at least have the project moved to a larger and more secluded parcel of land, where our farming community will not be so detrementally affected. We realize that now is the time to get our soil, animals and waters tested as we continue to educate our rural community and ourselves as quickly as possible.
We need your help to fund our fight to preserve this land. Your donations would be used for soil and water testing, health checks, office supplies and legal fees.

Please visit our Facebook page, Korbel's Family Farm to to see our home and the life that this company expects us to sacrifice for their financial gain.

Suggestions and resource links would also be appreciated.

Thank you.
