Kokua for Ms. Jady

Our dear friend Jady.
Jady Kamahele has been the heart and soul of Ka’ōhao school for over 15 years. As an educational assistant, she’s worked along side her teaching associates and served our youngest students as a nurturing, kind source of support. She’s also made a difference for our staff with our social network called the Aloha club, planning staff celebrations and keeping morale high around campus. Quiet in nature, Jady has been a positive influence on all she meets, and continues to serves in her humble way.

However, in January 2019 she noticed a difficulty walking. She couldn’t control the heel toe movement of her right foot, or even lift it. In March, the condition spread to her left leg. Her doctor then referred her to a neurologist who did extensive testing, MRI, blood tests, EMG tests, a spinal tap and even physical therapy. Despite the numerous tests, doctors could not pinpoint or diagnose the problem for Jady. As time went by, her leg muscles grew weaker and a wheelchair was necessary, as walking became impossible. As you can imagine, keeping positive became a challenge, as doctors, appointments, and tests all came back with no results. Jady decided to do her own research and came across the Pain Injury Brain Centers of America, which specializes in cell regeneration. Located in Windward Oahu, the treatment offered by this facility has given Jady more energy, but has not stopped the muscle deterioration. It is necessary for her to go 6 times a week and she must remain on a special diet. It is also not covered by insurance. Jady recently saw a vascular neurologist who has recommended that she seeks the advise of the Mayo Clinic in Rochester Minnesota, where they will do further testing and complete a muscle biopsy to hopefully get a diagnosis.

She obviously could not return to work this school year. As a state employee, Jady will run out of sick leave in early 2020. As a single young woman, her support has been her parents, her sisters, and her school ‘ohana. We are reaching out on behalf of our dear friend in this uncertain and challenging time. We’d like to see if we can help to ease one part of this challenge and help to fund her plane tickets, lodging, and tests uncovered by insurance that she may sustain by seeking treatment for this mysterious condition. If you have ever had a child in Ms. Jady’s class, or have ever known or worked with her, you will know how humble and supportive she is. We’d like to be able to support her now, in her moment of need.
