3 reasons why there a few minority Architects:

1. Exposure
2.  Money to study abroad
3. Role models

Chers amis et famille,

As many of you know, I am a 3rd year Architecture major at Hampton University. This summer, I have the opportunity to travel abroad and study the beautiful architecture in France.  This trip will help me learn and analyze the construction and design behind the urban cities in France and to study the inspiring Architects that helped developed these cities.  I've had a passion for urban design since I was in the middle school around the time I moved to metro Atlanta and decided I wanted to become an Architect.  It has been a dream of mine to travel the world and be influenced by diverse Architecture.

Studying at Hampton University has helped me understand the importance of being a black Architect and the responsibility Architects have on how others view the world.  Fewer than 2% of licensed architects are African American and it is my passion to create more opportunities for people who look like me. In such a male dominated field,  female and minority Architects are doubted and overlooked every day. I have learned this through firsthand experience and throughout my college career.

A trip to France will help me become a better architect in design development, sketching skills,  and city planning.  This trip is required for me to take in order to recieve a Masters in Architecture and will help me reach my goal of becoming an urban design Architect. It is in my heart to help put money back into struggling urban communities and build sustainably so that we can thrive and benefit from it.

I will be there for 4 weeks and I am raising money to help with the cost of tuition, food, and travel expenses for France.  $4,000 will fully cover the cost of tuition for the summer and $2,000 will help cover the cost of food and traveling. Any donation, no matter how small, is greatly appreciated. I am beyond hopeful for this amazing opportunity and I look forward to furthering my education.  Thank you for your time and consideration in investing into the future.

Merci,
