Pescado is only a year and a half and the sweetest most unique boy ever. He loves leash walks, bike rides, and shoulder rides...he’s basically a dog/human/cat hybrid.
Pescado came to me through my job. I am a veterinary technician and one day I was working and this beautiful bengal mix year old boy came in to my work with a urethral obstruction. His first owners didn’t have a financial situation to give him the gold standard of care but they tried the urethral catheterization and took him home the next day in hopes he would not block again. About a month later he had another episode and needed to be hospitalized, however his owners could not afford to spend any more money on his care. Having created a bond with him when he was initially hospitalized I could not let this boy be euthanized so I decided to adopt him in to our family. He now has three cat siblings and two dog siblings. He is the youngest and he loves them all, although they would prefer he had a little better manners. Recently, Pescado had another reoccurrence of urethral obstruction, he was rushed to a 24 hour hospital where he was unblocked with a urinary catheter and hospitalized overnight. The following day a PU Surgery was performed. He came home and was with me 24/7 for the following few days as I was concerned about his recovery. On the second day of recovery I noticed Pescado was not urinating from the urethrostomy site, urine was pooling subcutaneously, and dripping out of his surgical incision. I reached out to a few doctors and friends that work in the veterinary field and rushed him in to another 24-hour specialty hospital to have him assessed, after the doctor examined him he also became concerned and recommended we take him to ACCESS in Culver City for a surgical consult for a PU revision surgery as they were the only specialty hospital with a board certified surgeon available the following day.On 9/21/18 we went for our consultation, the doctor did her exam, and ultimately had the same findings and recommendations. A PU revision surgery was needed. An estimate of $4,000-$6,000 was presented to us. We signed and he was taken for stabilization and surgical preparation. After surgery I received a phone call from the doctor, she explained that the urethra was badly damaged and that the urethral tissue was extremely friable which made her very concerned for recovery. She wanted to keep Pescado at the least an additional 5 days with a urinary catheter in his urethrostomy site as she was concerned the tissue wouldn’t heal properly adding another $900 to our initial estimate.She did say Pescado was eating well and recovery went well. We are making this GoFundMe for Pescado as my boyfriend and I both work in the veterinary field as technicians and we do not make enough money to be able to afford these emergency situations. However, we will always do everything to ensure that our family of animals live the best lives. Fortunately, we did receive some assistance through the hospital as a we both work in the veterinary field, but we still need your help.
