827 houses in the informal settlement have been destroyed including hundreds of other formal homes in the area. Support is being organized for an estimated 8000 to 10000 people in the local Knysna area.
In order to help the many people who have lost their homes and possessions, been displaced, or injured by the devistating fires, we call on your help!
Donations will be used to start the rebuilding process and give those most badly affected a chance to get back on their feet!
Money will go items like blankets, food parcels, clothes, matresses, building equipment and assistance, and whatever else is most needed. This includes tampons, pads, toiletries, towls, shampoo, eye drops, and other basic necessities. Everything purchased will be given to the local Fire Department and National Sea Rescue Institute to ensure items are distributed to those who need it most. We have informed the goverment agency (Knysna Local Municipality) in our local town that we are raising money for those affected in the area.
Hopefully - with your help - we can also assist the eventual reconstruction of houses for those who cannot afford such a devistating loss. This will include funding for corregated roofing and other necessary materials.
Once the fire has been extinguished, we aim to form a volunteer team to engage communities and understand who is most badly affected and what additional help we can offer. In this, we are waiting on Rotary Club, Knysna to get back to us in order to collaborate. This confirmation is taking time as electricity in Knysna is still down. We will update to let you know once it is confirmed.
100% of proceeds will go towards those affected.
All our donations are transparent and we will be constantly updating our blog to show how and for what your donations are being used for.
Please see further details here:
Any amount makes a difference to those in need and we cannot thank you enough for supporting Knysna and its people! Please check the above site for updates regarding the use of the donations.
All funds donated will be directed to Carolina Thelin, who will manage the distribution of the funds to other relvent benificiaries as mentioned above.
