Knorretjes levershunt operatie.

Ik ben Cindy en ik woon met mijn katten Knorretje en Mika in Rijswijk.
Toen Knorretje (Xanthe) en haar broer Beertje (Xandor) zo'n 5,5 jaar geleden bij mij kwamen was ik ontzettend blij met dit duo. Ze waren zo lief voor elkaar, echt onafscheidelijk.
Na een paar weken merkte ik dat Knorretje zich vreemd gedroeg, ze zonderde zich soms af en begon erg te kwijlen, ze werd instabiel en leek mij en Beer soms niet te herkennen. Na meerdere dierenarts bezoeken wist ik nog steeds niet wat er aan de hand was. Tot er een katje overleed van dezelfde cattery (andere ouders) met exact dezelfde klachten. Dat moest het zijn!
En dat bleek het dus ook, na een ammoniak/ bloed test en echo in Utrecht kwam eruit dat ze een levershunt had. Vlak voor ze 1 werd wist ik dus dat ze deze ernstige erfelijke afwijking had.
En te ziek om te kunnen opereren. De chirurg zei dat ze een operatie niet zou overleven. Ik moest overstappen op een hepatic dieet in combinatie met een lactulose.
En eigenlijk ging het best snel goed!
Knorretje en Beertje waren onafscheidelijk en als ze zich iets minder voelde zocht ze altijd troost bij hem.
Een aantal jaar was het redelijk onder controle.
Mika kwam er anderhalf jaar geleden bij en ook dat ging heel goed.
Tot een paar maanden geleden.... Het enige natvoer ging uit de handel en kwam in nieuwe vorm terug (brokjes weigerde ze te eten). Helaas niet op tijd, waardoor ik tijdelijk nierdieet moest geven, en daar deed ze het niet goed op. Het kwijlen kwam weer terug. Wat voelde ik mij machteloos dat ik zo afhankelijk was van een leverancier.
Eindelijk na een paar weken was het hepatic dieet er weer. Nu moest ik opnieuw zoeken naar de juiste hoeveelheden natvoer/ laxatract. Maar het werd niet meer zo goed als ze het al die tijd deed. Het kwijlen en instabiel lopen blijft.
En in februari overleed plotseling haar broer Beertje, waar ze duidelijk om rouwde, dat hielp natuurlijk ook niet mee.
Met een levershunt zou haar levensverwachting heel onzeker zijn.
De enige oplossing voor haar is een operatie. Dus;
Ik wilde kijken of ze nu een operatie aan zou kunnen en in Utrecht blijkt ze (na bloed onderzoek en echo) dat ze geopereerd kan worden!
Maar daar heb ik wel wat financiële hulp bij nodig. De operatie kost 3042,59, het consult 34,10 en de nazorg echo na 3 maanden 366,63. Dat is in totaal 3443,32.
Ik kom 1500,- tekort.
Alle kleine beetjes helpen mij enorm!

When Knorretje (Xanthe) and her brother Beer (Xandor) came to me about 5.5 years ago, I was very happy with this duo. They were so kind to each other, truly inseparable.
After a few weeks I noticed that Knorretje was behaving strangely, she sometimes extorted herself and started drooling very much, she became unstable and sometimes seemed unrecognisable to me and Beer. After several vet visits, I still didn't know what was going on. Until a kitten died from the same cattery (other parents) with exactly the same complaints. That had to be it!
And it turned out that after an ammonia/ blood test and ultrasound in Utrecht it came out that she had a liver shunt. So right before she turned 1, I knew she had this severe hereditary disorder.
And too sick to operate. The surgeon said she wouldn't survive surgery. I had to switch to a hepatic diet in combination with a lactulose.
And actually, she became pretty stable!
Knorretje and Beer were inseparable and when she felt a little less she always sought solace from him.
For a number of years it was fairly under control.
Mika joined a year and a half ago and that too went very well.
Until a few months ago.... The only wet food went out of the market and came back in new form (kibble refused to eat them).
Unfortunately not on time, which forced me to temporarily give a kidney diet, and she didn't do well on that. The drooling came back. How powerless I felt that I was so dependent on a supplier.
Finally after a few weeks the hepatic diet was back. Now I had to look again for the right amounts of wet food/ laxatract.
But it didn't get as good as she did all along. The drooling and unstable walking continues.
And in February her brother Beer died suddenly, which she clearly mourned, which of course did not help either.
With a liver shunt, her life expectancy would be very uncertain.
The only solution for her is surgery. So;
I wanted to see if she could now have surgery and in Utrecht she turns out (after blood tests and ultrasound) that she can have surgery!
But I do need some financial help with that. The operation costs 3042.59, the consultation 34.10 and the aftercare ultrasound after 3 months 366.63. That's a total of 3,443.32.
I'm 1,500 short.
Every little bit helps me enormously!
