Knee surgery for Sasha Bacon

PLEASE HELP! Two weeks ago, our 2 yr. old family dog Sasha started favoring and then carrying her left hind leg. After a day or two, she went back to normal use of her left leg. Then, about a day later, she would carry her right leg and we knew it was time to get her to the vet.

The vet examined her and determined that there were likely no fractures, and decided to treat her for possible “soft tissue damage” with a course of anti-inflammatories, and a mild sedative to keep her from running around like a lunatic. Ya know... zoomies an’ all.

Another 3-4 days went by and we saw mixed results. She’d be overjoyed when one of her humans would return home from work/school, and run and jump like she was fine, but then limp around all night. Even when she’s in pain, she doesn’t show it. She’ll still somehow manage to get herself up onto the couch/bed even when I try to keep her down, or at least, pick her up and put her there myself.

It was when she refused to use the stairs that I knew something was wrong and made an appt. for a follow up at the vet. She was exhibiting favoritism and limping on both sides and we were concerned she may have a hip problem, or worse, some sort of tick-borne illness attacking her nervous system.

She was sedated and tested for “wiggle” which determines the integrity of her joints in her hind legs and diagnosed with not one, but two cruciate ligament tears. One in each leg. The vet has advised us that while this can be treated conservatively with exercise, anti-inflammatories, and medication, it would likely render her lame at a very early age. That compounded with the fact that she has injured both legs, makes the prognosis even worse. The other option is surgery to repair the ligament.

I can’t stand to see her in pain, and not able to run and jump and play like a puppy. So of course, surgery is the route we’ve chosen to treat her. But the surgery isn’t cheap. I’m hoping anybody who reads this can help us offset the cost of surgery as while we have some money saved up, we cannot afford to do it any time soon. I’m asking for any kind of help we can get. If you’re unable to donate, simply sharing this would help a lot and be much appreciated! Thanks for reading!
