Knee surgery for Mischa

Donation protected

When we visited PAWS 2 years ago, it was Love at first site between Logan, our one and a half year old, and Mischa, a 2 year old black lab. They hit it off immediately and have been best friends ever since. Mischa is gentle, loving, playful, patient, and now unfortunately, is crippled with a bad knee.

She has constant pain and whimpers deeply if she tries to put any weight on her leg at all. We took her to the vet / surgeon and found out that she has torn her CCL (similar to an ACL in humans). She needs a rather complicate surgery called TIBIAL PLATEAU LEVELING OSTEOTOMY (TPLO). The prognosis for a full recovery is good. A successful outcome will return your dog to full function on the limb.  In the surgeon's experience, about 90% of the dogs having the TPLO regain normal or near normal function of the limb (full weight-bearing) and will regain athletic agility.

Logan, now 3 ½, doesn’t quite understand why Mischa can’t play with him. We suspect that Misha doesn’t quite understand either as she tries but then draws back under her cloud of pain.

We wouldn’t be asking for assistants except for the fact that we are strapped with escalating medical bills as Cameron, Logan’s dad, fights Stage 4 Liver Cancer.

Please consider supporting this effort, even in a small way, so we can help Mischa and Logan, once again, be playful partners in our already difficult and distressing world.

Thank you,
