Luke the Minskin's medical needs

See Luke on TikTok

Luke is an amazing special needs kitty who has limited use of his hind legs and wears diapers -- but this doesn't stop him from getting around, from playing with his fur and human family, and from being just the most incredible, inspirational little man! His name means "bright, white, bringer of light" and that's exactly what he is! We adopted him, in great part, after losing our son, Wyatt, from complications due to Duchenne muscular dystrophy this past December. Wyatt was our hero on earth and is now our guardian angel. Luke was named for Luke Skywalker, as one of Wyatt's favorite shows before his passing was "The Mandalorian." Luke is incredible and he has helped us greatly in dealing with our grief.

Luke's first adopter returned him as his needs were too great for her to handle. When we saw this posted on the breeder's Instagram page, we just knew he had to be ours! It was instantaneous -- like a bolt of lightning -- and we decided to reach out immediately. She felt we were perfect for Luke...and even more amazing is that her husband has a medical condition similar to Wyatt's. It was like the stars had aligned. Just a few days later, we drove 4 1/2 hours each way to Maryland to get him.

We know what it means to care for a disabled individual and our goal is to give little Luke his very best life. But unfortunately, in order to continue to do so medically, we need to ask for help.

Luke has been diagnosed with spina bifida; however, his new veterinarian wants to explore the extent of his condition and determine whether there might be any other issues (a mass, other deformity, infection, etc.) and the only way to do so is with an MRI, the costs of which are great -- with fees, it is upwards of $4,000 -- and that is before any potential treatment. We can't even begin to discuss surgery or other options until we have a diagnosis.

Luke is the happiest, most affectionate, engaging kitten (he was born 10/23/2020). He's already become something of an internet/social media sensation! People far and wide have "virtually" fallen in love with him. They send him gifts from his Amazon Wishlist, reach out daily to ask how he's doing, and have even asked us to set up this donations page and keep them posted on his health and progress! He's a lucky boy to have so much light, love, and prayers coming his way!

In order for Luke to keep living his best life, we want to give him every opportunity to thrive. We hope to set up the MRI as soon as we have the funds to do so. Even if there is no treatment beyond the diagnosis, we will love Luke and continue to care for him. But if there is treatment available, we will pursue anything and everything so that he's able to remain happy and healthy and as mobile as he can for as long as possible!

We thank you in advance for any help you can offer -- no amount is too small. And please share this page, follow his social media, and even check out our art on Etsy and Threadless. The monies earned through our art shops also helps to make his life even better!

Much, much love, from Luke and his whole family!
