John’s courageous and valiant battle with cancer ended peacefully early in the morning on April 26, 2019. Our strong, brave and beautiful children, John Henry and Tori, and I surrounded him with love. The doggies were nearby throughout his swift decline over the day and evening, frequently adorning him with doggie kisses. We had the music he loved playing in the background for much of the time, and those sounds drift through our home today, reminding us of him. His occasional squeeze of our hands, blink of an eye and quiet breaths of “I love you” in response to us reassured us that John knew we were with him. In the end, there was only love and peace.
John’s zest for life, strength of spirit, and depth of pure love will sustain not only the three of us but all who loved him and were loved by him. We will carry with us his breadth, depth, and love for knowledge; caring spirit; humor; and quick wit to lift us through times ahead. The radiance of his kind and gentle soul will always be our shining light.
We could all be proud of living as honorable a life as John did. Take a moment to appreciate the minutes and little things as he did, and your life will be immeasurably enriched. Be kind.

In the early morning of Friday, April 26, 2019 John Henry Ludwell Glascock Jr, loving husband, brother, and father of two, died at age 75 after a year-long battle with esophageal cancer.
John was born on October 1, 1943 in Glen Ridge, NJ to John and Victoria (nee Eisele) Glascock, and lived in Fairfield, NJ throughout his childhood. John received his BA from the Johns Hopkins University in 1965 before serving in the US Air Force in England between 1966-1969. He returned to Johns Hopkins in 1970 after his service and brief time as an ironworker and obtained his PhD in Political Science in 1982. He married Charlene (née Miller) Glascock on June 29, 1991 at Rutgers University, where they met. They raised two children, John Henry (24) and Tori (22), in Central New Jersey.
John radiated love for his family and friends, cherishing moments of shared experience with an infectious zest for life. His children and family, including his doggies, were his greatest joys, as you could tell by the sparkle in his eyes when he was around them. He embodied the professorial spirit with an unyielding impulse to teach and a resolute drive for knowledge. His more than 40 year teaching career spanned multiple Universities, starting at Rutgers, then Princeton, Johns Hopkins, Barnard, Columbia, Montclair and ultimately back at Rutgers. John loved jokes, music, newspapers, and crossword puzzles, and he lived in awe of the natural world around him. His innate compassion, quick wit, and capacity for knowledge instilled in those around him an immense presence that he was often too humble to recognize.
John was preceded in death by his brother, James, his father, John, his mother, Victoria, and his sister Dorothy (Sugar). He is survived by his loving wife Charlene, his adoring children John Henry and Tori, his sisters June, Barbara, and Helen, several cousins, nieces, and nephews, and many friends.
