Help the Kearney Family

To all my facebook and Brentwood family and friends:
Many of you who personally know me know that I Love the Lord. I’m not perfect, but I’m in perfect pursuit of God.
The Word of God tells us in Deuteronomy 15:7-11 "If there is a needy man among your brothers in any of the towns of the land that the LORD your God is giving you, do not be hardhearted or tightfisted toward your brother in need. Rather be openhanded and freely lend him whatever he needs. Be careful not to harbor this wicked thought: "The seventh year, the year for canceling debts, is near," so that you do not show ill will toward your needy brother and give him nothing. He may then appeal to the LORD against you, and you will be found guilty of sin. Give generously to him and do so without a grudging heart; then because of this the LORD your God will bless you in all your work and in everything you put your hand to. There will always be people in need in the land. Therefore I command you to be openhanded toward your brothers and toward the one in need in your land."

With that said, I have a friend that many of you know – His name is Ervin Kearney. Ervin is happily married and has 5 children ranging in the ages of 2-18. He left Florida where he worked as a nurse and moved to Iowa where he also obtained his nursing license. Sad to say, Ervin was diagnosed with stage 3 Kidney disease and was unable to continue working and applied for disability. During the long months of waiting to be approved, he received good news and bad news. The good news was his kidney disease was upgraded to a stage 1 in part to a healthy diet and taking care of himself, the bad news was that he no longer qualified for disability.

Ervin decided to move he and his family back to Florida and made arrangements to stay with a friend in Jacksonville, FL. Shortly after arriving, he was informed that the landlord was not going to permit them to stay in the house and found themselves homeless. Ervin decided to pack up his family and drive to Miami, FL because it the warmest place this time of year. You see, Ervin and his family are currently living out of their van on campgrounds, rest stops and truck stops. He has visited various shelters only to be told that they cannot accommodate the entire family. The family shelters are either full or have a 3 month waiting period. Social services turned him down, according to them he is no longer considered a Florida residence since he now has an Iowa driver’s license. They only assistance they did offer him was to help them return back to Iowa and let the State of Iowa help them.

There are many people who abuse the system, or looks for the next handout but Ervin is NOT that person. Although still living in his van, he was able to find temporary work to provide food for his family. He is struggling to get to this job because he has no money for gas. His goal is to first secure a place to live, work hard to renew his Florida Nursing license, and find an apartment where he and his family can settle into.

My heart breaks for this family. No two year old child or any for that matter should EVER go hungry. A child should always have a roof over their heads and a warm bed to sleep, not sleep in a van and wonder where their next meal is coming from. The reality is that these situations happen daily in our very own backyards to family and friends and we’re sometimes unaware. I’m simply doing what the Lord has commanded us to do and it is to love one another and help in the time of need. Folks, there’s a need here and I’m just challenging you all to do the same. You all know I have NEVER asked anyone for anything, but I'm just making you all aware of this family’s dire situation.

I’ve set up a gofundme account for Kearney Family. This is a secure site so there’s no need to worry about entering your personal information. Please dig deep into your heart and help me help them by donating $5 or $10 today through this gofundme page, every penny adds up and will go directly to help them. You can bless them with whatever the Lord puts in your heart to give.

I’ll leave you with this last scripture: "I tell you the truth, when you did it to one of the least of these my brothers and sisters, you were doing it to me!" (Matthew 25:40)  Thank you and May God Bless You!!!
