Marco's Kidney Fund

Donation protected
My greeting:

Hello. My name is Marco and I need a kidney. I have ESRD (End Stage Renal Disease) and I am trying to raise funds that would go toward expenses related to my kidney transplant and medications needed afterwards. I am 41 years young and have been married for 18 years to my loving wife, and have a 14 year old son.

 My story:

In July 2012, I had bad abdominal pain and rushed to the ER. I was told that I would need laparoscopic cholecystectomy (Gall Bladder removal). What was supposed to be a simple procedure turned out to include major exploratory surgery.

After the gall bladder was removed, I was placed in the recovery room to monitor my vital signs before being discharged  if everything was stabalized. However, that wasn't the case. The nurse noticed that my blood pressure kept dropping and they performed their tasks to help bring my blood pressure back up. They kept monitoring me until my blood pressure dropped so low that I started coding. Their attempt to resuscitate me was successful but short lived. I coded a second time and I was rushed back to the operating room for emergency exlploratory surgery.

This was a major surgery that required them to open me up to find out what could be causing the problem. When they opened me up, they found my insides pooling with blood. It turns out that the laparoscope nicked an artery that supplied blood to my kidneys.  They cauterized it and closed me up.

After the surgery, I was put into an induced coma and intubated because my blood pressure was too high. I was awakened a week later and was told my me that my kidneys failed from the stress of losing too much blood.

I was devastated. I felt my life would not be the same as I would need to undergo dialysis for 3.45 hours, three times a week. I was no longer able to work and felt that I would be a burden to my family.

While receiving treatment, I looked around the dialysis center and thought to myself that this would not be the end of me. I decided to pursue to become an RN and I am currently in nursing school. I didn't want my kidney failure to control me. Once I become a nurse, I plan to be a living testimony to help encourage other people who are undergoing  ESRD and let them know that if there is a will...there is a way.

My Thanks:

Thank you for taking the time to read my story and I pray that God speaks to your heart and bless you for your kind generosity.

Please forward this to anyone you think that can help - friends, churches or any other organizations. Thanks again and God Bless.

Sincerely,

Marco & Family

***JULY 2017 UPDATE***

I started to get called by Loma Linda recently. I'm also in the process of getting listed in Nevada through UMC. There was one time that I was actually called for transplant. So we dropped everything and drove to Loma Linda...I checked in and was prepped for surgery for the morning. I stayed up all night since i couldn't sleep due to the anticipation that THIS was it...I would finnaly get my kidney. As the morning came I eagerly kept on looking at the clock, but as it went past the time my surgery would've taken place the surgeon finally came and spoke to me. He told me that this kidney would not be a good fit for me. He said that it would put too much of a strain in my heart...since I have a heart condition. Now this was the first time I've ever heard anything concerning my heart. I was devastated and deflated. We packed up and headed back home. The following day, I had an agiogram scheduled by UMC. I was told it was standard procedure to get my cardiac clearance. I went in thinking that I'd be in and out..but that wasn't the case. They found 3 blockages in my arteries that were 85% or greater. They placed a stent in one, balloon plastied another and another stent is scheduled to be placed - but if this doesn't work, they would need to do a bypass. This would set my chances of getting a kidney back at least 6 months as they need to make sure that my heart will be ok.

Sometimes you wonder "why me Lord?", but I can only keep on praying and claim that my victory over this will come someday. Please continue to keep me and my family in your prayers. Thank you for all your generosity.

Marco
