KLJ Movement, Performance and Dance Company

#SmallBusinessRelief  Greetings, I am a movement artist from Sun Prairie, WI! I recently graduated from UWSP with one of my degree's in dance.

Since relocating back to the Madison area, I have been involved in the dance community through Madison Contemporary Dance and various projects from other freelance artist.

It has been my dream to open a dance company that centers black and brown voices and movement. As a woman of color in the dance industry, I know what it is like to not have a space that grants me permission to be myself, or have others not trust my intuition. In addition, the lack of acknowledgement of black and brown people in dance has been apparent throughout history. Black people have contributed to art and expression in many ways and I want to create a space that allows people to embody their authenticity while honoring the ancestry of dance in a holistic way. Being said, the future of this dance studio will be inclusive to all walks of life. All genders, cultures, races, ethnicity's, abilities, cognition's, and much will be respected at the KLJ Movement, Performance and Dance Company.

KLJ Movement is a non-profit organization that provides professional development through performance opportunities and technique classes. Aspiring dancers and movement artists will be empowered from the contributions of black and brown dancers throughout history.

Through the exploration of dance we provide artistic opportunities for artist to expand their expression through performance.

The movement aims to recognize that dance is vital to building critical thinking skills and challenging social norms.  We use dance as a way to provide a different point of view. Art is subjective, why not start a conversation?

Liberation: Striving to empower people that have been marginalized.
Compassion: Treating our peers, community, and selves with empathy and keeping an open mind.
Social Justice: Making a commitment to take a stand during social inequities.
Joy: The freedom of shared community and fellowship.
Authenticity: Acknowledging the many different intersectionalities we hold in community.
Knowledge: Treating each moment as an opportunity to learn and grow.

It would mean a great deal to me by donating to this dream. It is not only a dream of mine, but a dream for many others that are seeking a space to be their true selves. Let's create spaces together that promote authenticity, knowledge, and unity!
