On Monday, February 19th, the Klingler family experienced a family tragedy. Early in the day while snowboarding at Mount Rose, middle son Tyler fell, and required transport to Renown for evaluation. He was diagnosed with a broken tail bone and sent home.
Upon return home, youngest son Rhett was riding his bike in front of the house while the family cleaned up from the day. His father, a Fire Captain for the Storey County Fire Protection District while on duty, received another call that his youngest son had been hurt. While riding in front of the house Rhett had a ramp set up next to the curb to jump his bike. A car coming up the road went to far onto the shoulder striking the ramp and then hitting Rhett. Rhett was thrown some feet landing in the neighbors front yard. The elderly driver stopped a distance away and possibly was experiencing a medical episode herself.
Fortunately, with the quick response from Sparks Fire Department and REMSA, Rhett was tended to by emergency personnel in minutes. He was transported to the trauma center at Renown, in Reno Nevada. Rhett is currently listed in critical but stable condition. He suffered a closed head injury with a small brain bleed and a fracture to his femur. He is currently sedated and on a ventilator with family at his bed side. Surgeons hoped to operate on Wednesday but with his overall condition they elected to move the surgery to Thursday.
Storey County Fire Fighters Association would like to establish an account to assist with the costs levied on Brother Klingler's family. Meals have been provided for now but a long term plan is in the works. Any and all donations will be appreciated.
