Send Me Back to Haiti!

In 2013 I followed a call to Fort Liberte, Haiti with a group from my church that partners with a group called Friends of Fort Liberte. I watched as a medical team lovingly served her people. I helped interview children for a child sponsorship program. We purchased new mattresses for an orphanage. We painted on a building that is forming through the work of many teams to replace the orphanage that was damaged in the 2010 earthquake.

Most importantly, I fell in love. I fell in love with a country and her people. I fell in love with the way they worship. I fell in love with her children. I also learned a lot about my heart and how it loves. That learning has continued in my homeland, but it has left me for a longing to return. I left a piece of that heart on a rooftop porch and I am longing to return to claim it!

When my husband finishes law school, we plan to make this trip a regular in our budget. But The Lord said "go now! Don't wait!" My teacher salary is pulled as tight as it will stretch while we raise three children and put my wonderful husband through school, but I know The Lord will provide what I need to complete what He has called me to do. He has already spent three years preparing my heart to participate in a nurturing program at the orphanage, which is what I will spend the majority of this trip doing! I will be looking for creative ways to raise extra money, but if you're like me, sometimes I would rather skip what's being sold and give the full amount to the cause!
