“Why Not Us?”
Dear: Friend, Family, and/or supporter of our youth,
It’s been 29 long years since the last time Linden High School’s football program won a state championship. As a matter of fact, none of the current student-athletes on this year’s team were even born. However, the drought has ended! Our 2014 Linden High School varsity squad has captured the North Jersey Section 2 Group 5 football title. Along with this great accomplishment, this year’s team also won the Watchung Division of the Mid 38 Conference. This amazing team will also go down as having the most wins in one football season recording 10 wins.
Winning this year’s title took an incredible amount of sacrifice, dedication, discipline, and accountability from both coaches and players on and off the playing field. Many players gave up their summer of just hanging out, passed up opportunities to work part time and earn extra money, passed on family vacations, and some even walk or biked miles daily to team workouts for the chance to win a state title and make the city proud. Truth be told, many players found their way out of trouble and bad situations simply because they bought into being examples to others while being responsible teammates. These young men set the bar high and let nothing get in their view of progression.
Now they need your help! So often our hard working youth get bad raps because of negativity perpetrated by a few of their peers. Positive reinforcement is rarely shown to those that stay focused on doing right and being productive citizens. As a plea, as head varsity coach, I ask that we as a community join together and show this special group of kids, state champions, some support by donating to the cause. A goal has been set at $15,000 to purchase state championship jackets for the entire team and to have a special football banquet honoring the achievements of this great group of young men. Please consider a donation in which 100% of your money is supporting our student athletes.
Indeed 2014 has been an awesome football season for the Tigers, probably the best season ever. As family, friends, business/corporation owners, CEO’s, leaders in the community, & Linden residents, let’s show our young people we care.
