Urgent Assistance Requested

Dear Friends. Once again, I'm in a position where I need to ask for some help. I pray that you will forgive me for imposing here. I try to keep this page as a sacred and positive place, and I dislike making such posts here. I can only hope and pray that no one is offended by the post.

I need to purchase new batteries for my scooters, and to have some major repairs done to one of them. The batteries for the two scooters will cost over $1000 alone. Unfortunately, when you buy even the most expensive type of scooter or wheelchair batteries, they are only guaranteed for six months, and they always seem to want to die just a few weeks after the warranty runs out. It can be maddening, but, ah so, it is what it is. One of the scooters also needs several hundred dollars in repairs, after an accident, and they both badly need servicing, especially with winter coming.

I also need to buy several pieces of much needed medical equipment, such as special shoes for my leg braces, which have to be specially ordered to fit my feet and the braces, and are not covered by the disability people. It's strange that they will pay $2500 for the plastic braces, but won't pay an additional $200 for the special shoes they go into. I've tried finding alternate footwear solutions, but they simply are non-existent, from what I've been able to find out. If my goal is reached, I think that I'll get a couple of pairs of the shoes, as with only one pair, as I have now, if anything goes wrong, then I would be unable to walk at all, or with extreme difficulty.

These, and a few other pieces of medical  equipment I need are things that will make life a whole lot easier for me, and help in day to day living, and will enable me to continue living independently for as long as I can. I also must have some serious dental work done, which is no longer covered by the disability folk. I have put it off as long as possible, but it needs done, and soon.

Being a rather stubborn sort of fellow, I have not given up living on my own, and while it may one day happen that I might need to move into a nursing home or 'managed care facility,' as I believe they call them these days. I would rather put that off for as long as I possibly can.

I like to be a positive person, but sometimes life serves up some interesting challenges for us, and when it is time to deal with those challenges, sometimes we are forced to confront certain 'realities' of the body.  While I realise that, as Ram Dass says, 'We are not these bodies.' It can be difficult to be living in the body when it begins to break down.

I dislike having to bother everyone with these campaigns, but currently, it is really my only option for raising the needed funds, as we who are on disability don't exactly get rich on it, and of course, the government (God bless them) keeps cutting back on what they will cover. So, we have to dig deeper into our own wallets in order to get the things we need to help make life a little easier.

Having said that, we are quite fortunate that our health care system here in Canada is very good, and I have been blessed with great care the last few years, the few times I have been confined there as a patient in our excellent hospitals. Of course, it helps living in the National Capital, where our health care infrastructure is quite good. If only that extended to those who are not hospital inpatients.

I thank you all for listening to my complaining, and for those who are able to give even a small amount, I give many thanks. And if you are not in position to give, please say a small prayer that everything will work out. Thank you all very much, and may all the greatest blessings of life be yours, always. :)
