Back Porch Renovation Fund

The Capital project committee was created in early September after a suggestion by an alumni at our Quarterly Alumni Advisory Meeting. It has since decided to move forward with its first project being the renovation of the back porch of the fraternity house. Looking at the photos above and thinking back to recent years it is obviously a patchwork of amateur repairs and wood that may predate the chapter itself. There are several spots where the wood is close to falling through and we've already had it happen once this year. We hope to fix that this semester with a complete rebuilding and expanding of the porch, with professional help. As a chapter we had already had this project in mind over the summer, however with us accepting a new member with a handicap, it has been pushed forward in order to better accommodate immediate needs.

So whats the plan?

1:Build a temporary ramp
We need to have access while under construction for our new member, so building a ramp immediately is the first step of our project

2: Hire a contractor
None of us are contractors by trade, and rather then repeat the patchwork of the past the active chapter decided a contractor is needed for a project of this size. If you know any, or have any assistance please let us know.

3: Buy the Materials
We are looking into the possibility of getting wholesale lumber for this project, if you have any leads or advice please let us know. 

4: Assist in construction.
While we may be more in the way at times then helpful, we believe this is a great experience for the chapter to take part in, whether it be to learn some of the trade, or just get a better appreciation the house, we want to help in this project.


How can you help?

1: Money
Renovations are never a cheap thing, and while the chapter is putting forth $1000 of its funds, we need your help. Money is the easiest and most useful asset we could get for this project. Any leftover funds will go into a special budget for future housing renovations.

2: Contracting
Some of you have access or ties with contracting companies, if we could get a reduced rate or some other deal it would help immensly.

3:Lumber
Lumber is quite expensive, and its difficult to find it wholesale, if you have any help to give here we could use it.
