Kittens nearly blind by infection rescued

Donation protected
Everyone who follows me on Facebook or has adopted from my little rescue, Meows Without Moms knows I rescue the smallest newborn and special needs kittens, get them healthy, vaccinated and spayed or neutered and find their forever home.  Three weeks ago, the horrible storms came through Georgia. Lots of trees fell, there was flooding and quite a bit of destruction. My Dad had a tree fall at a rental house and while cutting the tree, he saw a most horrific sight. Two little kittens approximately 3 weeks old  were coming out from under a shed with horribly infected eyes. They looked so terrible he didn’t want to touch them. Guess who he called? Me. And, since I didn’t have power from downed trees in my area, I drove  to Monroe to assess the problem. I must admit in a lifetime of rescuing animals, I’ve never seen anything quite like this. Blood poured out of the mainly black kittens eyes and the mainly white one had them crusted shut and swollen.   Most photos are almost too graphic to post.  They were in dire need of help and possibly humane euthanasia. I gave them sub q fluids, cleaned them up, immediately treated their eyes with terramycin and gave them bottles and a fuzzy heated warm blanket. Despite how poorly they looked, they had wonderful personalities. It took me a week to find a veterinarian willing to allow payments and a cheaper price. A vet I have been to more recently wanted over $3000.00 for just one initial visit and possible surgery. To just look at them would have been $250 each at another place. Santa Marietta Animal Hospital in Marietta was recommended by another rescue group. I took them there and the vet immediately wanted to operate. My initial estimate at the first visit  for both was around $1500.   The day before Thanksgiving  I took them for a follow up and costs were added as the infection was not responding to the antibiotic  completely and two eye medications.  On Thanksgiving, while visiting my parents, we went back to the house  to see the improvement to the property after the clean up.  I saw their sibling next door suffering from the same infection and in terrible shape.  I convinced the home owner to let me get it started on medication and get it veterinary care.  I showed him the amazing improvement on the other two so he agreed.  This new one looks like it’s vision will be saved.  I go back on Wednesday,  December 2nd for another follow up, have the new addition checked out and hopefully stitches from the surgery removed.from the initial surgery.  I hope I don’t offend  anyone, but these little ones deserve a chance. If you have an extra dollar or two, anything would be appreciated as this is a  big bill and follow ups with additional charges will be required. I thank you in advance for just your moment reading this. If nothing else. If you could send some prayers or uplifting thoughts, I’d truly appreciate it. I’ve named the kitten that lost her eye and may be blind Miracle. Her sister has fuzzy sight that may improve and I named her Joy. I’ve named the brother Trust and it looks like his eyes will be saved.  I’ll keep everyone updated. I can honestly say this was the last thing I needed right now, but I believe God puts in our path what we are to deal with and never gives us more than we can handle, but sometimes I think God and I have a difference of opinion.  I know 20 years ago I had two blind kittens and they had an amazing life.  I’m hoping for the same for these.  Thank you for your consideration!  Please share with anyone who will care with my sincerest appreciation.  Seasons Greetings!
