Mission Trip to Kenya

Donation protected
In 2009, I went on my first mission trip to Kenya with my church. During that trip, we came across a boy named "Collins" in the village of Chemilil near Kisumu that had a badly infected hand.

We found out that his thumb had gone through the sprocket of a bicycle chain and they had wrapped it, but not changed the bandage in a couple weeks.

Needless to say, the bandage was integrated with the wound and badly infected. We took him to Kisumu to seek medical help and I experienced what it is like to get a patient help in a Kenyan hospital.

Long story short, I paid off the hospital adminsitrator to make sure that the surgery went the way I directed them to, I needed them to use my sterile supplies that I had brought in lieu of the tools that they had been using all day.

In 2010, I returned to Kenya and saw Collins. His hand was healed and he was doing well. For that trip, I received donations that paid to fix a well, bought malaria and typhoid medications. I split up the medical supplies between the area orphanages. It seems that Artemesinin made by Artequick is a highly effective medication for malaria, but at $6/adult dose, it is too expensive for most of the people we serve.

In January, I will be returning to Kenya and I will not only get to see Collins again, but I will be visiting some of the other villages where we have ongoing missions.

My trip is already paid for and I have some personal funds that I plan to spend on the work at hand, but if someone else is lead to give too, that would be great.

I love the people that we work with in Kisumu and the surrounding area and I don't know that I will get to return. Being that this is my last trip, I am looking for ways to leave a lasting impact.

I will be buying some fingertip pulse oximeters for some of the doctors there (they do not have pulseoximeters), purchase medications to resupply the orphanages and fund ongoing ministry opportunities in the area.

My group will also be buying shoes for the children that live at the Kisumu dump behind the big Nakumat Market.

I will be posting updates during my trip (as our access to WiFi allows.)

Thank you in advance for your generosity and I look forward to showing pictures of God's work in Kenya.
