Kisses for Katie

Katie has been battling an Optic Glioma Brain Tumor for 17 years. She was diagnosed at age 11, she had brain surgery, where they found the brain tumor was inoperable. Since her diagnosis, she has underwent 31 days of intense radiation at Siteman Cancer Center, fifteen different types of chemotherapies, many, many MRI’s, eye tests, blood work, hospital stays and a ton of doctor appointments.

In September, Katie was told once again her brain tumor was growing, peripheral vision was worse and a change in the strength of her optic nerve that holds the tumor. Her Oncologist and Neuro Ophthalmologist noticed a change 9 months ago, then 6 months more of a change and 3 months ago a major change in her tumor and vision loss. She started a chemotherapy study trial in November at Siteman Cancer Center and the plan is to take it for 1 to 1 ½ years to kill all the cells that feed the tumor.

Her insurance company is declining to pay for the chemotherapy treatments. Her oncologist is hoping the drug company will donate a few months of the medicine so the cost isn’t a burden on Katie.
