Hello everyone! My name is Kirsten Lindsey and I am a recent graduate of Texas City High School.
My long-term goal for college is to attend Stephen F. Austin University to pursue a major in Education with a minor in Dance. In order to decrease the financial burden of my first year of school, I’ve decided to begin my academic journey at Blinn College. Blinn is a junior college located a few hours away from my hometown.
I applied for financial aid and was awarded a student loan which was based on my “estimated family contribution”. The loan amount vastly differs from the amount that my family is actually able to afford to contribute. For me, this amount was not even close because I live in a single parent household with a hardworking mother who now has two full time college students to help support.
Despite my current circumstances, I would still like the opportunity to pursue my education. Dance has been a passion of mine since I was three years old. I began praise dancing at my church and over the years I have praised danced for church services and events throughout Galveston County and the greater Houston area. I plan to use my degree to get started on the road to owning my own dance studio where I can give back to my community and mentor other young girls who share a passion for dance as well.
Although the cost is significantly lower at my current college than it would be at a university, I still have not received enough financial aid or scholarships to cover all expenses. I am looking to raise funds to cover my books, and room and board; I will cover any additional expenses by working a part-time job.
It has been a blessing to come this far and to have the opportunity to pursue my dream, but this financial road block is a bit discouraging, to say the least. I would greatly appreciate your contribution to my campaign and helping me make my dreams a reality.
