Kirk Urso Memorial Fund

There are people that come into your life from nowhere and immediately make an impact. Kirk Urso was one of those people. Unfortunately, life takes people away from us far too soon at times. Unfortunately, Kirk was also one of those people. Kirk Urso died of an undetected cardiac abnormality at the age of 22. While he was widely know as a standout soccer player, he was so much more than that: beloved son and brother, outstanding young man, valued teammate, and a great friend. 
     On August 5, 2012, I made a phone call that forever changed my life. I woke up my boss in the middle of the night and was told of Kirk’s passing. A few hours later, I stood in front of a room full of men and told them that their friend had died. It is the hardest thing I’ve ever done. 
      The days, weeks, months, and years have brought a continuous ebb and flow of emotion surrounding my time with Kirk. As his Athletic Trainer, I questioned what I missed that could have prevented his death. As a friend, I grieved his passing and wondered what might have been. As a son and brother , I struggled to watch his family deal with the tremendous blow they’ve been dealt.
   I’ve always thought I should do something to help preserve his legacy. Not until recently have I decided what to do. I’ll be running the Marine Corps Marathon in October 28th in memory of Kirk. I want to maintain his legacy and help support the Kirk Urso Foundation so they can fund initiatives in Kirk’s name that will hopefully prevent a story like Kirk’s. I ask that you help support my mission with not only money, but awareness. Spread the word about this campaign and together, we’ll honor Kirk and hopefully change the fate of others. To paraphrase Kirk, “Together we are strong; WE will overcome”
