$115 MILLION was donated during the 8 week period of the ice bucket challenge for ALS 5 years ago. This campaign is for someone fighting ALS right here in our community, Kip Jackson. Kip has fought this battle for 7 years and at diagnosis was told he would only live 3 years, 5 max. He continues to fight with dignity and grace, determination and grit. But it is not without major challenges. His wife, Robin has the biggest heart of anyone that I've ever met. She has lovingly cared for Kip's every need and truly encompasses what a devoted wife and partner are. As you can imagine, caring for someone around the clock takes it's toll in many ways. As the nature of the disease is progressive, Kip has had to spend more and more time in the hospital recently. Robin cannot work unless a caregiver is with him at all times as he is now a quadriplegic with a feeding tube, tracheostomy and is ventilator dependent to breathe. This has all taken a financial toll on their family.
Just to give you an idea of monthly expenses out of pocket: $4,000 for medical supplies, equipment, food, medication, and the cost of a daily caregiver. Add in medical bills (just to this point in 2019) is over $5,000. Kip has to have a special wheelchair which was $4,800 after insurance ($74,000 before insurance).
