The Kinneh Jeng Sallah Foundation

Greetings, May peace and blessings be upon you all. The late great Shirley Chisholm once said that “service is the rent we pay for the privilege of living on this Earth”. Me and my friend have tried to live by this creed and in order to accomplish that, we need your help.

My name is Aji Haddy Jallow and I am the Founder of The Kinneh Jeng Sallah Foundation. I was born and raised in The Gambia, a beautiful young nation of over 2 million people in West Africa. The name of my friend and Co-Founder is Agi Nyongeh Nyass and although she was born in Atlanta, Georgia her parents were born and raised in The Gambia and to her, it is as much her home as America is. We are two young adults that currently reside in Atlanta, and although we do have the privilege to live in the United States, we feel a deep moral obligation to positively contribute to our families and friends back home. For this reason we have decided to create the Kinneh Jeng Sallah Foundation in honor of the amazing woman whose plea brought a serious problem facing our home to our attention.

In The Gambia today, there are only a few mortuary’s currently in operation, far too few to handle the needs of over 2 million people. To make matters worse, these facilities currently lack the funds and proper supplies necessary to meet the needs of the population they so hope to serve. Some of them not only lack supplies, but also lack the money to pay their light or water bills. Something must be done to change this situation, and if we do not do it, if you and I, we who are aware of this problem do not, then who will?

We created this campaign because we feel that it is our responsibility to do whatever we can to make sure that the people of The Gambia are able to have this basic dignity which we in America take for granted. We hope to raise $4,000.00 in order to purchase necessary supplies which we will then distribute to mortuaries in The Gambia and assisting with whatever else is needed to maintain daily operations. For this reason I would like to ask anybody reading this to please donate what you can. $5, $10, no matter how small, every little bit helps. Please donate knowing that this small act will not only give another human being the dignity of a proper burial but will bring some peace to many more who are in a time of their most profound grief.

We are all human beings, and each one of us will go through our lives doing the best we can to leave the world a little better than we entered it. We each, hope to care for others and to be cared for by others in turn; and when we finally do leave this Earth, each and every one of us deserves the dignity of a proper burial, in accordance to our beliefs and our wishes. This simple right is something we would all want to give to those whom we have loved in life, and which we would hope to receive in death. Thank you, May peace and blessings be upon you all, and have a blessed day.
