Kingston's Near Miss | Vet Fee Fund

Our 8-year-old Fox Terrier/Poodle cross Kingston (King, Kinky, Kinky-Shtink) has been through the wars once again. It’s already a stressful year for my partner and I having moved interstate to care for my terminally ill mother, and now experiencing some terrifying flashbacks after losing our 18month old Pointer puppy in April to a Hit-and-Run.

The reason we are here is to ask for your support in repaying the wonderful VET medical team that gave Kingston a second chance. We have burnt through our savings covering what we could, and now it is up to us to conjure up the remaining thousands of dollars for the medicine, emergency surgery, boarding and labour involved.

After a draining year we were glad to see 2017 end, however, this debt is casting a shadow and putting a dramatic halt on our life. We recognise not everyone will be in a position to give, whether its a couple of dollars or spreading the word to someone you know who could, Dylan, Kingston and I will forever be in your debt, and will honour the good deed by passing on what we can to those in need, when we are in a better position again.

For those who are interested in the finer details, please read on. For anyone able to spread goodwill today, we shall pass it on 'tomorrow'.

Love and Thank Yous. xo

Kingston was diagnosed with Epilepsy at a young age and has needed daily medication since. In 2014 he ruptured a disc in his spine and needed emergency surgery to stop him from losing all movement in his back legs, that $6000 fiasco we managed to cover with some smart loaning which is only just being paid off.

After a relatively smooth run, 2017 has seen us back in deep water with no sign of immediate help covering his latest grievances. In November we noticed Kingston’s usual sprightliness and energy levels dwindle, and his appetite almost disappear. After a couple of days’ observation, we took him into the vet clinic.

Daily blood tests, IV drips, overnight boarding for almost two weeks, CT scans and ultrasounds all pointing to Pancreatitis. After treatment and ongoing medication, he somewhat recovered and we seemed to have made it through with a “modest” bill of $5000.

THEN, one week later he loses his stamina again and seems unwell. Back to the vet for a second run of the same treatment as assumed reoccurring Pancreatitis. Kingston shows no sign of improvement and gets us all worrying as his health visibly depletes.

More scans, ultrasounds, blood tests, x-rays... until finally a visiting specialist noticed shadowing near the stomach and intestines on the imaging. We get the terrifying call, they need to go in to emergency surgery as it appears something is blocking his digestive system.

A nail biting three hours later and they'd found a huge plastic mass in his stomach. Luckily they could remove it, stitch him up, and he should’ve been fine. Another hour passed and in came the phone call we weren't prepared for. They'd found over 40cm of additional plastic twisted through his small intestine, tearing through the organ walls and had to remove 80% of his digestive track. We were told to get to the vet as quickly as possible to say our goodbyes in case he didn’t make it.

We'd never wish that feeling upon anyone. Before we pull out the tissue boxes we must say whatever the surgeon did was nothing less than remarkable as although beaten, bruised and one organ lighter, our pup has survived and appears almost back to his usual self.

For us, we would never have stopped hoping, wishing and paying for the very best to save our guy. But now that debt has clocked over $8000 and our finances are stretched with every cent going towards paying the wonderful team at Southern Cross Vet Clinic NSW for saving Kingston from near death.

Emotionally, physically & now financially drained, it has taken our proud selves a lot to consider asking strangers for help. We know we aren't alone when it comes to seeing the value in a pets companionship, and when we are back in a stronger position, we’ll continue to give what we can, to whoever else needs it.

If you are in a position to donate, or at the very least spread the word, we would be forever grateful. Every penny will go towards covering Kingston’s fee's and anything excess will be put back into animal welfare via Southern Cross Vet’s Compassionate Fund, Project Hope - http://southerncrossvet.com.au/project-hope/

Thank you, for whatever you can do...

Love Pete, Dilhan & Kingston.
xx
