Kingsmen Thunder Drum Line 2018

GoFundMe Update GOAL $20,000
The Kingsmen Thunder Drum Line gives students at Rex Putnam High School and Alder Creek Middle School in Milwaukie, Oregon an opportunity to learn an engaging and athletic art form. Last year, after 8 years spent building a quality program, the Thunder competed for the first time at a WGI competition in Hillsboro Oregon along with other area schools and in the regional circuit NWAPA (NW Performing Arts Assoc.). While our percussionists are enthusiastic and dedicated, much of the district's equipment is sadly outdated, unusable, or simply non-existent. Over the last 30 years many music programs have been reduced, altered, or simply eliminated across the US and Milwaukie OR is no different. Last year the Kingsmen Thunder were raised ½ GoFundMe funds and were awarded a grant for the other half to finally purchase their first Marimba for the growing front ensemble. This is the ONLY full sized Marimba in the district. The percussionists in this program have so much talent and work extremely hard…. they deserve to have instruments and equipment that are considered standard for this activity.
Funds go towards this year’s wish list:
Replacement Heads for drums ($300)
Uniforms and basic wear ($2,000)
Travel Expenses: $1,500 U-Haul

Marimba $4,000, Adam’s 4 1/3 Octave Marimba on field frame
Pearl Championship Marching Tenor/Case/Harness $2,000
Bass Drum Harnesses to upgrade from 1980’s $1,500
P.A. $5,000 w/rolling racks for competition (McCormick’s or Lonestar)
Competition Floor $1,000
Sticks, Mallets, Hardware, stuff that breaks! $500
Props for Winter Indoor Show $1000
Zildjian Cymbals for Front Ensemble and clamps for field frames $1,200
The drum line is a very popular and growing program, however the district is unable to fund it at this time. Grant-writing, and student fees along with fundraising along with the director's tireless volunteering of extra time and resources make this program successful. 20K may seem like a lot of money, but all of the equipment is a one-time purchase and will be put into service for years to come! Any amount or item on the wish-list is so appreciated. Drum line is open to all students regardless of background and is a fantastic way to build confidence, teamwork and discipline; all skills that will serve them well throughout life.
