King's House - a community centre for King's Cross

242 Pentonville Road is a historic building in the heart of King’s Cross. It was built in 1923 and most recently has housed the Poor School, an acting school, and the Pauline Quirke Academy that offers children's drama lessons. The building has sadly been left in a poor state of repair and King’s Cross Church have had an offer accepted for a 10-year lease that would to see the building restored and brought back into community use.

When restored, King's House will provide modern, accessible, flexible community spaces for a number of amazing organisations working across Islington and Camden to support all sectors of society. The projects include King's Cross Foodbank (started in response to COVID-19), Growing Hope (free therapy support for children with additional needs), CAP (debt counselling and employment support), Crux (mediation services),  Choices (caring and supporting people through unplanned pregnancy), and many more. 

We anticipate the works to the building to cost in the region of £250,000-£350,000, and we are seeking to raise this across the coming few months through a combination of individual donations and through grant-making bodies. All donations will be managed by King's Cross Church (registered charity 1141658). 

Our vision for King's House is to create a space that brings these different partnership together to collaborate more effectively in support of the local community. These exciting proposals will create a space where people from all walks of life come together and those who are marginalised and neglected in our society are given priority. A space that facilitates the ongoing transformation of this amazing local area.
