My name is Destiny Dickens. I am the founder and current representative for Kings Youth Academy, a nonprofit organization that concentrates on the personal growth and development of troubled teenage boys. Our goal is to help mold them into upstanding young men and intellectuals, catering to their individual needs and keeping their success and growth at the forefront of their development. At Kings Youth Academy, we believe that every young boy has the potential to become a confident and upstanding young man especially if provided with the right support and tools to do so.
The Academy caters to the needs of young boys who have either struggled in the educational setting or have been in the criminal justice system and require strong encouragement and a guiding hand to aid them down a better path. The organization operates primarily in the summer; these boys will be housed at our facility; it is a nine-week program that concentrates on developing young boys into young men by providing them with strong role models, tutoring, leadership skills, proper problem-solving skills, and stern guidance. We feel as though these young boys are not obtaining the guidance and teachings needed to become the best versions of themselves that they can be in a traditional school setting. I took it upon myself to create an organization that promotes inclusiveness, individuality, and all forms of expression while simultaneously guiding the boys to a better lifestyle.
As the founder, I have a strong military background, serving four years in the Army and spent one year working with Child Protective Services. Furthermore, I possess a Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice so I am familiar with the criminal justice system and the effects the juvenile system can have on children and teens. The organization wishes to combat the effects the system and inadequate teachings can have on these young minds and, with your support, we believe that we can help further create a more conducive environment for these young boys to turn them into young men.
