Kinetic Highway Senior Project

Donation protected
We are Kinetic Highway, a group of four students majoring in Mechanical Engineering Technology at the University of Houston. For our Senior Design project, we tasked ourselves with designing and building a small scale Gorlov helical wind turbine that is self-starting, scalable, can utilize turbulent winds, and has an efficiency greater than 30%. We are focusing our area of study on capturing turbulent winds around highways and bridges, with the potential of using the wind turbines to generate power for street lighting. The motivation behind choosing this project is that we wanted to contribute to the improvement of renewable energy technologies and utilizing unused sources in unconventional ways. We also wanted a project that encompassed our mechanical engineering technology curriculum entirely, from fluid dynamics to strength of materials. All funds raised will go directly towards the manufacturing and building of our project. Below is a break down of our predicted costs.

If you have any further questions about our project, feel free to contact any of our team members: Trenton Richmond, Carlos Cazares, Darius Hollins and Abdullah Tayeb. We are greatly appreciative of any way you can help, whether that is in the form of a donation, sharing our page on your social media, or a simple "like".
With gratitude,

Team Kinetic Highway
