The Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong of Singapore is suing a 65-year-old Chinese man for sharing a post on Facebook.  He did not add any comment to the post and the post itself was already a shared post.  Many people shared this post and yet only this one man, 65yr old Sze Hian is being sued.

The Prime Minister requested a Facebook post to be removed, which Sze Hian did. However, the Prime Minister started legal proceedings against him under Singapore's Draconian defamation laws.

On 26th December Sze Hian filed a counterclaim on the basis of abuse of process however, on 19th January 2019 Lee Hsien Loong filed defence to Leong Sze Hian’s Counterclaim and files an application to strike out the counterclaim. However, on 12th March 2019 Sze Hian's counterclaim was struck out by the courts but, the Prime Minister’s claim remains.

With a suite of lawyers at the Prime Ministers disposal Sze Hian faces a hard and expensive battle which he is prepared to take on in the name of Freedom for all Singaporeans and those worldwide too.

On 14th March 2019 the Prime Ministers lawyer issues statement to demand s$21,000 from before 5pm 21.03.19 and he has since received further demand for immediate settlement before 1st April 2019 to avoid further action.

It’s hard to imagine how your world can be turned upside down as you sleep, little do you know this is the last decent sleep you will have as your nightmare begins upon wakening. The cause of the nightmare because you shared a Facebook post, exactly the same action that thousands of others did too.

The true implications of sharing a Facebook post on 7th November 2018, are continuing to become more evident.

Facebook is extremely popular and people engage robustly with sharing and commenting. It is this way of life that needs to be protected. Wherever you are, whatever your nationality please join in the campaign to raise money, raise the awareness and set a precedent for how ordinary people can safely and freely engage with social media.  This is an important and vital aspect of Freedom of Speech.

While Sze Hian remains strong in this battle against the Government and their powerful lawyers, #KindofYou wants to show solidarity and support. Please join us in the #metoyousg campaign which is about sharing kindness and paying it forward to others. Sending gratitude is something we can all do.

This campaign has been created to support him in this endeavour over the next several months and is raising money to help Sze Hian in this historic and significant legal case.

This case also has further significance worldwide where the issue of sharing or liking existing posts on Social Media is extremely inconvenient and undesirable issue for many governments, some of whom are already looking for ways to crack down on their own people.

People should feel safe when engaging online and not targeted or penalised by an authoritarian regime.

Please stand with us in solidarity ♥️
