Kind Hearted Veteran Homeless After Caravan Stolen

Donation protected

Drew Williams, a local resident of Wagga Wagga, NSW had his caravan stolen and destroyed in an unfortunate turn of events.

Drew lived in his caravan with his dog Lucy (pictured) at Wilkes Park, North Wagga Wagga. He became unwell during the Covid-19 lockdown and was forced to stay with friends as a result. Drew would check regularly on his van and tried to make it appear like someone was still living in it.

Last week whilst checking on his van Drew saw a homeless man in a leaky tent. Drew felt compassion for the man and offered him the use of his van, which he immediately moved into. The local police who regularly patrol the park spoke with the fellow in Drew's van, the police even visited Drew to make sure his story checked out.

Friday morning Drew got a call from another camper notifying him his van was gone. The police found Drew’s van in Albury, Wodonga. Unfortunately, it was too little too late with the van stripped of everything of value, a broken jockey wheel, tearing to the roof and a wall, leaving it in unliveable condition.

Drew is a pensioner doing it tough to survive. He served in the Australian Army during the Vietnam war period. Drew is a kind hearted man with great compassion towards his fellow people, but his generosity was taken advantage of this time leaving him homeless. The irony of Drew’s situation is he and Lucy are now homeless because he helped someone homeless.

Drew got his 1976 16-foot Franklin Arrow from a caravan park where it was being thrown out. He brought it back to Wagga Wagga and worked on it for months. It took a lot of hard work and money but he was happy with the little home he created for himself. Drew is feeling deflated because his efforts have now amounted to nothing.

Drew and Lucy are now in urgent need of help. We are asking for everyone to please dig deep and help to purchase another caravan that Drew and Lucy can call home again. He served the people of this country during wartime and made sacrifices for all Australians.  Will his country now help him in his time of need? He deserves our respect, love and generosity. He would do the same for you if he could.

As Drew’s friends, we have set the target high in the hopes of getting him a new caravan or small motorhome. All donations collected are sent to a dedicated bank account set up for this purpose only.  Please be assured your generous donations will be used for this sole purpose. We hope to provide everyone with an update of what is purchased for Drew on here and / or via social media.
