I keep finding myself around people who have experienced violence and trauma; sepcifically, some clients I'm seeing through Nightlight- an organization that rescues trafficked women from prostitution.
I am humbled by the magnitude of counseling these clients and I want to do it well.
I believe more training would help me to do it better.
The Global Mental Health: Trauma and Recovery Certificate Program has been around for over 30 years, exploring the best ways to help victims of violence and trauma who come from diverse backgrounds.
It's a 7 month program: two weeks of class in Orvieto, Italy, and then 5 months of follow-up correspondance coursework. Upon completion of the course, I would become part of the Alumni Community of Practice, growing and learning from colleagues around the world who also work with trauma victims.
I first read about this program during my counseling intership 6 years ago. It seemed like a dream too far out of reach, but here I am, turning 40 in less than 2 weeks, and I thought, what the heck- I'll tell family and friends my dream and see how far it goes. So if you'd like to give me a birthday gift that would further my professional development and enable traumatized women to get better access to mental health services, here's your chance. :)
